Often known as the 'abode of snow' is the Himalayas. A vast, uninterrupted stretch is the Himalayan Range. The Himadri (greater Himalaya), Himanchal (lesser Himalaya) and the Siwaliks are the three main geographical bodies of the Himalayas (outer Himalaya or the foothills). Significant geological fault lines divide them. The Himalayan belt covers half the globe and forms the northern frontier of the Indian subcontinent as a whole. Five separate countries, namely India, Bhutan, Nepal, China and Pakistan, pass through it. The Siwaliks originate from the Indian Himalayan region.
