 The journey begins in the mountain town of Leh. Leh can only be reached by plane, and it is surrounded by snow, giving it a completely white appearance. The plane descends toward Leh, which is located at 11400 feet above sea level, and passengers can see snow-capped mountains. The trail crosses the frozen Zanskar River in the winter. January is the best month to cross the ice. During this time, the ice is usually at its most stable. The Frozen River Trek begins in Chilling, a small village where the Zanskar River freezes.
