Chadar Trek in February
Chadar Trek in February
The best time to go on a Chadar trek is from January until the end of February. The river freezes into a mesmerising sheet of ice during this period, which is excellent for this risky adventure. In most cases, the Chadar trek takes 9-10 days and spans 16-18 kilometres each day.
The Zanskar River begins to freeze over about the middle of November. The temperature quickly decreases, providing great trekking conditions. It's worth mentioning, though, that the ice will be semi-solid until mid-January, so don't plan a walk until then. The Chadar walk is one of the most beautiful and tough hikes in the world in terms of difficulty.
The Chadar trek entails crossing the frozen Zanskar river, which is covered in a solid sheet of ice for the most part. The nearby canyon adds to the tour's tranquilly and beauty.
