The Kedarkantha Winter Trek

My family and I are total junkies of adrenaline. We are trying to get out and take on adventures as they come. Look, we're going to go the extra mile, and take the less traveled route. Every break we get, we try to schedule an outdoor trip. We have been through all the states of the South as a small family from the South of India. We really tried to go to the Himalayas and widen our horizons, as much as we love the South and all it has to give from the outside.

Where were we going to go? Where did we begin? How do we navigate our way across the northern towns? We started looking. We agreed unanimously that we would start in Uttarakhand. We knew that winter would just arrive and we had to be armed with our winter gear and winter wear to brave the harsh weather while planning this trip quite late in the year. The cold temperatures, the falling snow and the weather all made us seem apprehensive.

We started looking for places to trek to and eventually settled on Kedarkantha. Not many people know about Kedarkantha Trekking and there are not many tourists to the town. Not many know it, but the winter snow sets in by the middle of December on the Kedarkantha trek and lasts until the third week of April. You're likely to come across snow just as you reach the 10,000-foot mark, lying among the pine trees on the forest floor. When you enter the meadows, you are likely to be covered by a massive blanket of white in every direction. This demanded that we be prepared for the worst. To bring on this journey, winter gear and winter wear were a must. We had to keep ourselves insulated and prepared for unforeseen difficulties.

The trek to Kedarkantha begins in a thick forest of pine trees. This made us happy and roaring to go, surrounded by snowcapped mountains and snow falls anywhere you go. The trek was going to be difficult with most of the snow laden routes to take. For this journey, winter boots and proper gear, such as winter pants and jackets, are a must.

We discovered that skiing in the region is a major attraction and sport as we continued our research into Kedarkantha. To enjoy some adrenaline-pumping skiing, Kedarkantha is packed with a variety of pistes. We were excited to find out that we might be skiing in Kedarkantha. For skiing, the gear we were going to bring was appropriate. The winter gear and carry, though being comfortable, will keep us insulated. We were primed for some adrenaline-pumping winter adventures on the slopes.

Many people claim that winters are a time to sit and stay away from the cold at home. We questioned this norm by having our winter gear and winter wear ready for the adventure. We went to Kedarkantha on the winter expedition of a lifetime as soon as we knew it.
