Five Reasons To Do The Tarsar Marsar Trek

Is Tarsar Marsar in Kashmir on your bucket list?

Not yet, right?

It will be after we tell you all about it, so don't worry.

Kashmir is much more than Srinagar, Gulmarg, and Sonmarg. Kashmir is known as the Valley of the Lakes. There are over 15 enchanting lakes deep in Kashmir's valleys and mountains that can only be reached by trekking. The lakes of Tarsar and Marsar, deep in the Lidder valley, are a delight for trekkers, unlike the popular Dal Lake in Srinagar, which attracts tourists.

Tarsar and Marsar are two oligotrophic alpine lakes in the vicinity of each other, separated by a mountain range. The two lakes are sometimes referred to as twin sisters because of their close proximity and identical physical characteristics. Tarsar Lake drains into the Lidder River, while Marsar Lake drains into Dal Lake in Srinagar and flows in the opposite direction.

Local Kashmiris recommend Tarsar Marsar as the only trek that takes you to the heart of Kashmir and offers heavenly views of Kashmiri culture.

The Tarsar Marsar trek is comparable to Kashmir's more well-known Kashmir Great Lakes (KGL) trek. The Tarsar Marsar trek is a perfect alternative to the KGL trek, with its fair share of breathtaking meadows, spectacular valleys, excellent mountains, and lovely trails.

1. Meadows:

Tarsar Marsar has Kashmir's picture-perfect meadows, which I refer to as the "gold mine" of Kashmir. These meadows are unlike anything you've ever seen, and they'll leave you feeling awestruck and elevated. These meadows will put a smile on your face right from the start, as you ascend from Aru's basecamp and approach Lidderwat's campsite.

2. Mountains:

This trail looks like it came straight out of a fantasy world, with breathtaking mountain views and vistas. The mountains you'll see along the way were created for this spectacular scenery.

Tarsar Marsar has breathtaking mountains that surround and separate the blue lakes. A crystal clear blue lake on one side, sensuous green meadows in the middle, and rugged mountains on the other are all visible from the campsite. As a result, a catalyst of colours is shown, with each layer being more beautiful than the previous.

3. Emerald:

The three lakes you'll see on the hike, Tarsar, Marsar, and Sundersar, all have an emerald blue colour due to their oligotrophic nature, which means they have low nutrient levels, low algal levels, and therefore crystal clear water. When the sun sets, the lake's water seems to sparkle like diamonds. The Tarsar and Marsar lakes, which are the trek's highlights, are so large that viewing them from various angles and elevations yields a different impression of the lake with varying colours. Such is the allure of Kashmir's lakes.

4. Camping:

The chance to camp next to the enchanting Tarsar and Sundersar lakes is a highlight of the Tarsar Marsar trek.

tarsar marsar lake trek. It's not every day that you get to camp next to a high-altitude glacial alpine lake. There are few places in the world where you can camp next to such magnificent high alpine lakes. Ok, you can do that right now, and you have no idea how amazing it is. When you camp on the soft meadows next to the reflection of the blue sky in the crystal clear lake, surrounded by jagged mountains, it's so majestic and euphoric. It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience that's also romantic.

5. Easy:

The Tarsar Marsar trek has a gradual ascent and is a moderate trek, making it ideal for both beginners and seasoned trekkers looking to explore Kashmir's beautiful valleys and lakes. The trek is less strenuous since the total distance covered over the 6 days is about 40 km. Beautiful alpine meadows, beautiful blue lakes, a mountain pass with unparalleled views, impressive valleys, and sublime mountains are all visible throughout the 6-day trip.
