Kedarkantha Summit

Kedarkantha Summit

My first Himalayan trek took me to the peak of Kedarkantha. It worked out great because I made it to the summit at 12500 feet. It's a must-do trek for beginners with stunning views of the Himalayas.

The winter trek to Kedarkantha Peak in Uttarakhand is moderately difficult. Because of the weather and the dropping temperatures, it's an exciting experience. The temperature drops to -10 degrees Celsius at night. The nearest village is Sankri, where the road ends and the trek begins. The journey from Dehra Dun to this village takes about ten hours. Sankri has a few small lodges and guest houses where you can stay the night before beginning your trek.

Some of the most beautiful camp sites can be found along the way. Expect snow and a leisurely walk on the frozen lake on your second day at Juda ka Talab if you visit in late December. The hike from Sankri to the first Juda ka Talab camp site takes about 4 hours. After about an hour's hike from Sankri, one starts walking on snow.
