Frozen River in Chadar
Frozen River in Chadar
Walking along the icy river of Zanskar is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for any adventure lover. The walk is also known as the "Chadar Trek," which refers to the ice sheet that served as the sole way in and out of Zanskar during the winter when all other routes were closed owing to heavy snowfall at high passes. As a result, the Zanskari people have used it as a trade route for decades. The track is now well-known as a winter trekking route among explorers.
The Chadar Trek is the most precious gift bestowed upon this lovely location by LADAKH, which is home to many natural treasures. The trek is all about perseverance and survival – learning to survive in harsh terrains at sub-zero temperatures, interacting with locals and learning about their way of life, especially in one of the world's least habitable regions, all while trekking across a dramatic gorge with frozen waterfalls on the frozen trail of Zanskar spanned out like a "Chadar" that acts as a sky mirror!
